Review of Adam Lucio's "The Noob"

First chapter up is already a bittersweet chapter for me, considering I pretty much blew this day badly - April 22, 2010. Adam is chasing with Danny and I think his friend Mike, and they witness at least 5 if not 6 tornadoes documented. A few of them are brief, but Tornado #2 is very solid for a good while.

The second chapter is my favorite - May 22, 2010 - The Bowdle, SD Chapter. This is the day Adam, Danny and I ended up in the field after our road ending and us driving into the farmers field to escape tornadoes. Since I was in the vehicle, I had already seen most of Adam's footage, but the footage he got during the initial touchdown was pretty incredible. He also got a little better video of the actual Bowdle, SD Wedge than I did. The best funny moment (in my opinion) is all of us laughing about Adams gushers flying out. Adam did a great job explaining the field and his video was much easier to follow than any others I have watched from that day.

The next chapter is a short one from May 7, 2010 where Adam was owned core punching a supercell in Northwest Ohio. He and I both chased that day, but his video was a lot more intense. The best line is from Danny who wants to drop an F bomb then goes "I can't swear!"

Next up is June 10, 2010 from way out in Colorado. The LP Structure of the storm with the tornado coming down is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I hadn't ever seen Adam's footage of this storm before and wow was I in for a surprise. I wish he had a decent still camera out there, because the stills he could have gotten that day would have been absolutely incredible. Adam's girlfriend Deb texted me a picture from her phone that day, and I was incredibly jealous I didn't get a chance to see it that day and now after seeing the video I am definitely jealous!

Next up is June 17, 2010 the Minnesota Tornado outbreak day. Yet another bitter day for me, but Adam's best chase day ever. The tornadoes are absolutely amazing and you hear a lot of Adam explaining things to his girlfriend Deb in the video. The horizontal vorticy around the major cone tornado makes me sick!

The next chapter is April 19, 2011 where Adam scored on a decent day in central Illinois. A great tornado for sure!

The big chapter up next was the Super Outbreak from April 27, 2011. Adam and Jonathan Williamson ended up in Northwest Alabama as a monster wedge tornado passes by them. They weren't really sure what they were seeing at first but you can definitely tell in the video that it was the leading edge of maybe a 1/2 mile to 3/4 mile wedge. They then run into the damage path, where Adam mentions 'It smells like pine trees'. Bill Oosterbaan was also chasing down there that night, and ended up helping Adam with getting some fuel for his truck - Bill also mentioned just the smell of freshly cut pine was very strong in Alabama that day after all of those tornadoes ripped through the state.

Next up is May 24th in Central Oklahoma. Adam had some of the best footage of Canton I saw, and the vorticies on the ground are just incredible. Adam had quite a bit of distance from the tornado, but it was so large and violent that nothing is lost from the distance at all. One of the steadier shots Adam holds throughout the entire DVD

The next chapter is Adam's first real big tornado which brought him fame glory and fortune.. Well scratch the fortune, but it is some of Adam's best footage. A tornado crosses I-57 south of Chicago and Adam just had oral surgery and has a bloody mouth full of gauze. Adam was able to hold his cool and call 911 and tell them to relay the report to the National Weather Service in Chicago. Bonus points for having his old van, a Ford Aerostar, in his shots! Rest in Peace Aerostar.

The next chapter up is April 4, 2010 which was a day Adam picked to chase eventhough the potential was almost non existent for tornadoes. The jury is still out on whether he saw a tornado, but he definitely saw some very intense straight line winds. The audio in this chapter is killer with all of the winds howling by, and you can even see his window cover get ripped off and tossed!

Next up is the Wakita, OK Multivortex tornado on May 10, 2010. The footage from that is super short, as Adam was behind the tornado, but they did get some debris being thrown towards the road.

Next up is the April 9, 2011 Mapleton, IA day. Adam documented either a tornado or gustnado (The video is still inconclusive to me) near Onawa, IA that I hadn't really seen other footage of.

April 25, 2009 in Foss Lake Adam documents some Tennis Ball sized hail as it bounces off the pavement and his car.

Next up is a segment which features footage from from June 5, 2009 Goshen Wyoming day. Like me, Adam was quite a distance away from the tornado as it roped out. The video transitions into a quick video of May 13, 2009 near Kirksville, MO then into June 20, 2011 tornado in Stamford, NE and then goes to June 5, 2010 in Central IL. These are all great short clips of other tornadoes that weren't significant enough for their own chapters. Other dates include May 10, 2010 Wakita, OK, June 19, 2011 near McCook, NE, July 26, 2011 in Hoven SD, April 9, 2010 in Onawa, IA, May 21, 2011 in White Cloud, KS, April 29, 2010 in Hollenberg KS, and June 20, 2010 in Pleasanton, NE. It was a great way to tie up all the loose ends!

Overall this DVD is a definite BUY. It's a great first offering from Adam Lucio. Pick up your copy at Adam's Website!. Adam has been a great friend and is a VERY passionate chaser.
