Incredible end to April!

April 30, 2012 Medford, OK Tornado

I just got done with a 4 day stretch of amazing chasing starting Friday in Kansas where I intercepted a brief tornado near Council Grove, KS. While that chase was a let down, the following three days more than made up for it.

Saturday included a chase down near Aspermont, TX where I saw one of the most incredible lightning shows ever and was treated to a brief but nice tornado in the field right next to us after dark with fellow chaser David Drummond. Unfortunately we were so busy shooting the incredible lightning, we didn't notice the tornado right away! Thankfully it didn't hit us!

Sunday included an amazing supercell near Lubbock, TX which produced what I think was a brief tornado near Woodrow, TX which is just south of Lubbock metro area. That same supercell also dropped baseball sized hail which damaged cars and houses all over the area.

I had to make the long drive back from Lubbock, TX to Norman, OK starting around 10pm when I broke off the chase Sunday night to be to work on Monday in Norman. The drive was almost 5 hours, and I arrived home shortly after 3am.

Monday evening was absolutely amazing. An outflow boundary sat across Oklahoma from the storms the night before most of the day, and kicked off some shower and thunderstorm activity in northern Oklahoma, producing 5 tornadoes in Grant and Alfalfa counties. I left Norman after work Monday and drove north and intercepted 2 incredible tornadoes after dark.

What a crazy week! I am still busy posting pictures, videos and writing my chase recaps. Stay tuned!
