This day was hyped pretty heavily beforehand – and with good measure. mid to upper 60 degree dewpoints on the first of April across Oklahoma. With a strong dryline to the west, storms would fire as a 125 knot jet overspread the warm sector.
The SPC ended upgrading to a moderate risk for hail (45% hatched) at 11:30. I’d end up leaving around 2pm and heading down I-44. I made stops in Elgin and Lawton before dropping south into Texas. Oklahoma was socked in clouds all day, and destabilization seems like it was the main problem. The air felt muggy, but we never seemed to heat up.
As we got into Lawton, we ended up in stratiform rain from the anvil blow off from the storm down near Albany, Texas. I decided to head east on US-82 all the way to Gainesville. During the transit time, we never saw another storm we wished to be on. The main storm going across north Texas was aiming for Denton/Northern DFW metroplex. I didn’t care to get into a prolific hailer, so I headed north on I-35 back to Norman.
